Ralph Fiennes Spreads New Info About 28 Years Later

Earlier this year, news broke that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland were returning to the zombie scene with 28 Years Later, a continuation of the beloved post-apocalyptic series last seen in 2007. That’s actually the first of at least three movies,, and will feature big stars like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes, along with a returning Cillian Murphy.

We haven’t heard much about the film since then, but Fiennes recently provided some details on what it’ll be about. While doing promo for his new film Conclave, the actor told IndieWire the film is set 28 years after the Rage Virus’ return put Britain into zombified chaos. According to him, the thrust of the film concerns “a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother.” Instead of going out on his own, the unnamed boy takes his mother “through this beautiful northern English terrain,” where they eventually meet a doctor who is “a force for good.”

Thus far, all of 28 Years Later’s known cast consists of adult actors, without any real mention of their role in the story proper. (It’s not even clear what awaits Murphy’s bike courier Jim.) Speaking about the larger upcoming trilogy, Fiennes revealed that two of the three movies have been fully shot—last we heard, the second movie is subtitled The Bone Temple and will be helmed by The Marvels’ Nia DaCosta. If we’ll be seeing more of the (allegedly) good doctor in part two, Fiennes ain’t saying; we only know Murphy’s in both since he was spotted filming scenes for Temple in September.

What else to expect from 28 Years Later, and how it continues the 28 Days saga, we’ll have to wait to learn about ahead of its release on June 20, 2025.
